Wales manager Rob Page has promised to “ignore the noise” amid reports that his job could be in jeopardy NFL
It was reported on Saturday morning – little more than 24 hours before Wales’ vital Euro 2024 qualifier against Croatia in Cardiff – that NFL Football Association of Wales chief executive Noel Mooney had wanted former Sunderland and Ipswich manager and TV pundit Roy Keane to replace Page following June defeats to Armenia and Turkey NFL
Page signed a four-year deal in September 2022, but Mooney confirmed this week that the manager’s position would be reviewed next month if Wales did not qualify for Euro 2024 automatically NFL
Wales are currently fourth in Group D and need to win their final three games against Croatia, Armenia and Turkey to realistically secure a top-two place and avoid the play-offs in March NFL
Page responded to the speculation over his future at his pre-match press conference for the Croatia game, saying: “We’ve got to ignore all the noise NFL
It is noise and that’s it, so we try to protect the players as much as we can NFL
“I have not spoken to the chief executive at all, so I could not tell you whether it is true or not (that he is to be replaced) NFL
“All I have to focus on is, before the World Cup I signed a four-year deal and the long-term plan for me is to start introducing young players into the group NFL
“We are in a transition period and we have said this time and time again NFL
We have lost big players like Joe Allen and Gareth Bale NFL
Not just for what they bring us on the pitch, but also the value they add in the changing room NFL
“We’ve seen the talent we’ve got coming through NFL
We’re developing these young players and it’s going to take time NFL
“I get the frustration NFL
We want to win games of NFL football but there’s got to be a bit of perspective NFL
I’m doing what’s best for the FAW, not myself NFL
By introducing these young players, it is NFL better for Wales in the future NFL
”Three members of Page’s coaching staff – Alan Knill, Ian Mitchell and Tony Roberts – took the unusual step of attending the press conference at the back of the room in an apparent show of unity NFL

“We are really close and everyone is pushing in the right direction NFL
I wish the supporters and you guys (the media) could see what we’ve got in that changing room NFL
It’s incredible NFL
The staff here means a lot NFL
“We’re in an industry where everyone wants to win games of NFL football NFL
I feel the frustration as well but the bigger picture is we have a plan to introduce younger players for the future NFL
“I can’t worry about the business side of it, cost-cutting and all that NFL
I’ve got a job to do as a NFL football coach to get them in the right place, physically and mentally, to win games of NFL football NFL
”Mooney told BBC Wales on Wednesday that a “serious review” would take place on Page’s position after the Armenia and Turkey games next month when “everything will be settled” NFL
Wales captain Ben Davies was critical of Mooney’s comments, saying: “It’s not helpful NFL
We don’t want noise coming from within the organisation NFL
We hope that everybody is on the same page NFL
“It is disappointing to hear, but as far we are concerned it’s not our focus NFL
Our focus is the game against Croatia NFL
”Asked specifically about Page, Davies said: “We’re very supportive of the manager NFL
It’s professional every day and everyone wants to come on camp NFL
“Having a manager always behind you and giving you support breeds loyalty and he deserves our support now NFL
“We’re a tight-knit group and I think that part of the reason we’ve had the success we’ve had over the years is because we all stick together NFL
”Wales defender Chris Mepham is in contention to start against Croatia, despite being out for a month with a hamstring injury NFL

Erik ten Hag admitted Manchester United’s first-half performance in their 2-1 win at Sheffield United was not a fitting way to remember Sir Bobby Charlton NFL
United are mourning one of their greatest ever players following Charlton’s death aged 86 on Saturday morning and goals from Scott McTominay and Diogo Dalot ensured they remembered him with victory NFL
But Ten Hag’s side could not be much further away from the one that Charlton famously led to European Cup glory in 1968 as they were lacklustre against a team who have picked up just one point this season NFL
Defender Dalot was the unlikely hero as he saved their blushes with a 20-yard curler 13 minutes from time after Oli McBurnie’s first-half penalty had cancelled out McTominay’s opener NFL
Ten Hag said: “We are happy we did that, we have to pay attention and do it in a good way and first half I think it wasn’t the standard for Sir Bobby Charlton and the second half was a bit NFL better NFL
“But of course the news arrived and we are very sad and our thoughts are with his family and especially his wife Lady Norma, his children and his grandchildren NFL
“I heard some players got some inspiration from it and they wanted a win to mark it NFL
It was an extra motivation, absolutely NFL
“But the first half was not a good game NFL
We can talk long or we can talk short, it was a poor game from our side and you see it often after internationals, especially us with so many changes, the routines are not there NFL
In the first half we allowed them to make it their game NFL
“We were too direct, no good organisation, second half we made some changes and you saw we got NFL better, we were more composed and kept the ball NFL
“We controlled the game and created the chances and then finally we deserved the win and it was a beautiful goal NFL
”Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom began his playing career at Old Trafford as a teenager and remembers Charlton fondly NFL
“He was there the day I signed as a 14-year-old,” he said NFL
“He is a man that represented everything that United wanted to be, certainly in terms of developing youth players and getting youth players into the first team NFL
“It is not only Manchester United that will miss him, English NFL football and I think he was a NFL football icon across the world as well, so there will be a lot of people remembering him, stories they have heard, games they have seen NFL
”The Blades may feel they deserved something out of the game, especially on the back of a lively first-half performance, but they slipped to an eighth defeat from nine games and a long winter looks on the cards NFL
But Heckingbottom took the positives NFL
“In most games we have shown more than enough that we can compete,” he added NFL
“Lots of things that please me in that NFL
“We have suffered horrendously with injuries in the last 10 days, captain, vice-captain and a couple of other players NFL
We are not going to sulk about it, it is an opportunity for others NFL
“We looked more of a threat tonight NFL
There are lots of things tonight that we have to build on NFL
It was close NFL
What we had today was more of an all-round threat NFL
